Whitstable Tidings October 2019

A Message from the President

Hello everyone, Autumn Greetings to you all,

Firstly I would like to congratulate all the finalists in this year’s knockouts. Sadly there always has to be a winner and a loser, but those who finished as runners up this year, it could be your year in 2020. Goodness where did those twenty years go? On a serious note though, next year, please check your personal diaries when entering any knockouts because this year, like the last, we had walkovers even in the later stages.

Just a couple of weeks ago we had our annual President’s team vs Chestfield. Although the overall result was a loss for us by one match, we had several who ended up losing on the 18th so it was a great improvement on the previous year. Lady Captain Louise, was quick to point out, that our Ladies were triumphant in both of their matches so of course I am very keen to congratulate them! Excellent job Ladies. I was very pleased during the evening meal afterwards, to listen to how well our two clubs got on as usual. The laughter I’m sure, could be heard in Nelson road. A big thank you also goes to Tony Love and his team for dedication to the club in the past eighteen months and I wish him all the best in whatever venture he chooses for the future.

That leads me on to welcome Ben Silcock as our new chef. I am sure he will become a great asset to our club and I trust you will all welcome and support Ben in what he has planned for the club from his wealth of experience in the catering business.

Tidings…. I have to say what a fantastic job Andy Selwood always does with our Tidings so newsy and most of all so professional. Of course it is your input, as members from the different sections that provide him with most of the content but it is Andy who puts it all together in such an attractive format. I don’t know of another club that produces such a good monthly publication, so well done all especially Andy.

We are approaching the time of the year when we start to put on more seasonal social events, so please come along and support whatever our committee put on this winter. The social committee do a great job, working hard to both plan and organise these events but of course they need your support by coming along and joining in. So keep an eye on the notice board and I look forward to seeing you all.

Well that’s it for this month, happy golfing.

John
