Pantomime Treasure Island!
A large section of the club went to see Treasure Island at the Playhouse theatre on Saturday 4th Feb and had a great time, “Oh yes we did!” unfortunately it’s now “behind us!” There followed fish and chips in the clubhouse, many thanks to our president Mike Behr for the organisation and food!
Website
The website has been revamped and there are still some small problems to sort out. If you are having trouble accessing the members page e-mail Bob Ireland at robert.ireland@gmail.com and all will be resolved! Your comments on the website would be appreciated any improvements you can suggest will be considered.
Social Functions
It is proposed by the social committee that all future functions be posted on the notice board next to the bar on the Friday 4 weeks prior to the event.
The reasoning for this is that there have been complaints from members who don’t get a chance to put their names up before the list is complete. It is also proposed that members must put the names of all participants at the time of booking and not just book a table.

Saturday 12th May Cabaret Night (details to follow)
The Old Salts
Captain Brian Best Vice Captain Colin Chapman Secretary George Bawden
Thursday February 2nd
The weather conditions on Thursday were not the best for playing golf. The ground was very hard making the bounce of the ball very unpredictable and some very long tee shots were experienced. An icy wind blew across the course causing some players to curtail their rounds and head back to the warmth of the Clubhouse.
Despite this the scores were very creditable.
In the Captain’s Challenge the Captain, Brian Best was partnered with John Fullager and they had a very hard fought battle against Tony Bensted and Ted Backhouse. The challengers, however, were just pipped at the last hole.
Another round in the Six of The Best Stableford competition was held and this was also very closely fought. The results were: for the Gentlemen – 1st. Sid Silk with 37 points, 2nd. Brian Ridley 34, 3rd. Alec Parrett 30, for the Players – 1st. Kit Ryan with 33 points, 2nd. David Kinnersley also with 33, 3rd. Roy Percival 30.
Considering the conditions all the above are to be congratulated.
The Old Salts’ Annual Dinner will be held on Thursday 8th. March at the Clubhouse. This is always a very popular event and is attended by Old Salts members and their wives / partners.
Junior Section
Captain Bradley Packham Secretary Peter Wade
The February Medal played on Saturday 18th was an 18 hole competition for the first time this year due to the lighter evenings. The winner was Bradley Packham , 2nd Richard Smithe, 3rd Marijka Rapley.
Following a meeting with Jack Dale, the Chestfield Juniors Captain, the fixture list for 2012 was amended to avoid fixtures clashing on a Saturday. The March Medal which should have been played on the 3rd of the month has been moved to the 30th.

Greenkeepers Forum
If you have a question you would like the Greenkeeper to answer please send them in for publication.
Here are a few already received
Why are we not playing off the main tees?
Why are there so many areas around the greens that are marked with white
“ no go” areas for trolleys, especially the one to the left hand side of the 8th green?
Where is the delineation between the rough and the fairway on practically all the holes?
The Editor would appreciate your comments or suggestions of ways to improve the club, course, magazine, web site, social activities, or anything else that comes to mind! Get writing – it’s your club say what you want!

Beachcomber
The police late one evening stopped an elderly driver leaving
Chestfield Golf Club. “Where are you going at this time of the night?” Asked the policeman. “ I am on my way to a 3 hour lecture on responsibility,
selfishness and the results of excessive drinking” ,replied the old chap.
WHITSTABLE TIDINGS
“Who on earth is going to give a lecture on those subjects at one o’clock in the morning?” “My Wife” he replied.
